Rumors about my untimely demise

(1 / 2)

It's true, and it's not exactly right.

Yes, I accepted another job offer. However, it's very difficult for
me to just say my goodbyes and leave. Atari, for it's part, feels the same
way.

So, although I start the other job next week, I'll be showing up from
time to time to smooth things over and take care of things while Atari hunts
up a replacement for me. Until my replacement starts (watch MAIL for further
details, but it'll be a while), everything will be the same as before, except
for my hours and the job opening.

I plan to be in house "usually" on Wednesday of every week, plus
whatever odd hours seem to be called for. As always, I'll keep up on my
VAXMAIL, and my phone will still be answered (trade secret). However, I'll be
doing things and getting back to you more often than fixing things on the spot.

The other job? It's with a 3-year old company that takes group photos,
has 40 employees and is rapidly expanding (9 last year). They make a software
product that allows transparent access to databases of several types, even on
other systems. I'll be leading the team doing the port to VAX/VMS when I get
up to speed. The name of the company is DB Access, and they're out of Santa
Clara.

My last day as a full-time employee at Atari is Wednesday, July 3.
Since the transition period will likely simply taper off, I'd like to take
this opportunity to point out that it was a very difficult decision to make.
I've appreciated the opportunity to work here, and thoroughly enjoyed the
company of those I work with. Compared against a very desirable job was
leaving dozens of good friends...many of whom I hope to keep anyways. And
this job was pretty good to me, too. Thank you all for the opportunity
to work with you.

	BUT WAIT!

Now that I've said it, I feel better. I simply didn't want it to
go unsaid; now I can gradually fade out as my successor takes over...an event
I'm in no hurry to see.
