DSPCOM checksum

(1 / 4)

Jed;

The self test says the checksum of the DSPCOM 27512 is 1025 yet the
IMI says the checksum is 6420! Why the difference? Isn't this confusing?

I am using 6420 as the checksum in the AROMREL.DOC. My plan is to
release this part today unless I here differently from you.

DSPCOM Checksum

(2 / 4)

The 2105 cannot read the Boot ROM directly, it can only boot pages of
program from it.

The program checksum is done on code that has been booted. This is not the
same as the actual data in the ROM because of things like:
1. The byte at address 003 in the ROM is a count of the words*8 to load.
2. A program memory word is 24 bits. Every fourth byte in the ROM is
   $FF and is not loaded.

In addition, Peter did not leave enough room in his boot page to add a
checksum routine, so I did something very clever that lets me overlay code
from boot page 4. This means that only about 97% of the program code is
checksummed, but it was either that or nothing.

You are correct, $6420 is the checksum for the ROM. I made the program
checksum come out to $1025 which is the last part of the part number.

Note: There is a Note on the screen that says:

NOTE: THE PROGRAM CHECKSUM IS NOT THE ROM CHECKSUM

Since the checksums are correct, and assuming both Self-Test and Peter's code
work, it looks like you can release it.

DSPCOM cable test

(3 / 4)

Jed;

I got your message. We are updating the selftest in all three
in house units (counting our station). I will release the selftest
later today to tomorrow.

Is it possible to have the cable test for a later release? If
so, could you provide a date? Is there some thing you need (besides time)
to complete this test?

RE: DSPCOM cable test

Yes, it is possible to have the cable test for a later release. No, I
cannot provide a date. I have one AMS and must make EPROMs to work with
two systems. (The other system is the one used to make ASIC65s, which has
priority.) It is too late to throw equipment at the problem.

If I cannot get it to work today or tomorrow I will probably not be able to
do it since I have several other projects to do things for before I go on
vacation.

Regards,

Jed
