I attended a focus group last nught on PLDs and several of the participants mentioned the AMD MACH series. Their comments were uniformly negative and centered mainly around a large list of problems with the design software and attempting to pry information from AMD on how it worked. I felt that I should pass this on in case anyone is considering using these parts. It was also mentioned that there is a problem with Altera parts. It seems that the input portion of the pin driver is prone to oscillation (circa 50MHz) in the presense of slowly changing signals such as tri-stated busses. This creates noise on the internal power rails and can cause problems even if the input is not being used. Tim
